9th Annual Oil and Gas Convention
The Oil and Gas Convention was about advancing equality in the Oil and Gas Industry.
Participation in the Oil and Gas Convention organized by the Uganda Chamber of Mines and Petroleum (UCMP) provided WEEN with a platform to engage in meaningful dialogue and collaboration with industry stakeholders through a notable panel discussion that focused on "Advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Oil and Gas Industry." Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu, Minister for Energy and Mineral Development and Patron of WEEN, was one of the Key Speakers at the Convention.
The discussions commenced with a key note speech delivered by Ms. Rebbecca Kukundakwe of GROW Project, PSFU. The panel discussions then continued with the following panelists, steered by Ms. Haawa Bukenya, Secretary General of WEEN: Ms. Lyoidah Kiconco – Head Exploration and New Ventures at UNOC, Mrs. Jennifer Mwijukye – Managing Director UNIFREIGHT, Ms. Eva Mpalampa – Head of Oil and Gas at STANBIC BANK, Mr. Ali Ssekatawa – Head of Legal & Corporate Affairs at PAU, Ms. Emilly Nakamya: - President WEEN, Ms. Irene Nayera – Director Human Resources at HIMA CEMENT, Ms. Betina Bageire – CEO Albertine Oil and Gas Services.
The panel opened with the foundational ideas of Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion (DEI) and how important they are to the energy sector. The panelists expounded on the significance of establishing work environments that are diverse and inclusive, welcoming persons with all backgrounds, genders, and experiences. Furthermore, the conversation explored useful tactics for applying DEI concepts in the oil and gas sector. The panelists discussed strategies for attracting and keeping talent, initiatives for developing leaders, and laws that support inclusion and diversity at every stage of the value chain for the sector.
Through cultivating an atmosphere that prioritizes diversity, equity, and inclusion, the oil and gas sector can unleash creativity, propel sustainable expansion, and provide prospects for all involved parties.
As WEEN continues to champion diversity and inclusion in the energy sector, we remain committed to driving positive change and empowering individuals to reach their full potential.
